BioDesign Foundation and Marina Militare present The Custodians Plastic Race project
For the first time in history, an unprecedented task force is meeting for a coordinated nationwide clean-up. To deal with the problem of plastic dispersed in nature, a format has been devised for cleaning the territory with simultaneous, coordinated and widespread actions, which will be used nationwide in autumn 2025.
A little more than a year after its official launch, which took place on the occasion of The Grand Finale Ocean Race 2023, in collaboration with the Navy, the related Hydrographic Institute, the Coast Guard and the Civil Protection, BioDesign Foundation and its systematic clean-up format The Custodians Plastic Race have undertaken numerous activities aimed at removing plastic and waste from the land and sea. The goal is to restore the beauty of the environment, aiming for a balance between man, technology and nature, thus promoting a new awareness.
Over 600 tons of plastic collected
As in the previous year, in 2024 The Custodians Plastic Race took the field alongside important sporting events, in the name of collaboration and sharing, commitment and collective effort.
After the partnership with EUROSAF on the occasion of the 2024 Formula Kite European Championship in March in Los Alcázares (Mar Menor, Spain), The Custodians Plastic Race collaborated with the European Athletics Championships in Rome and with the Foiling Week Malcesine 2024 on Lake Garda and then set sail alongside the Navy for the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, following the 8 stages of the Giro d’Italia a Vela. Finally, The Custodians Plastic Race has partnered with the European Match Race Tour.
Since the beginning of its activity, BioDesign Foundation with The Custodians Plastic Race have collected over 600 tons of plastic dispersed in nature and fishing nets, employing almost 1000 Custodians of the Future, i.e. individuals, volunteers, institutions, local and national associations, schools, municipal bodies and companies, who, according to their means, skills and possibilities, They worked to forge a better future.
